The educational activities cover knowledge and understanding about the advanced techniques and data analysis methods available at the SciLifeLab technical platforms. In general, they are aimed for researches who have not previously been aware of – or lacked access to – the technologies SciLifeLab provides. You can learn how to benefit from SciLifeLab’s scientific resources, how to plan your projects and how to analyze your data. The workshops are usually shorter than other educational activities and more focused on a single subject.
Please note that SciLifeLab training courses do not provide any formal university credits. The course content is estimated to correspond to a certain number of credits, however the estimated credits are just guidelines. If formal credits are crucial, the student needs to confer with the home department before course application, whether the course is valid for formal credits or not.
Please note that The SciLifeLab The Svedberg Seminar series is also a research course for graduate students.
SciLifeLab offers education in many different ways. Alongside with courses and seminars there are mentorship programs and drop-in opportunities for discussing your own projects.
The International Master program in Molecular Medicine at Uppsala University is strongly research oriented and focus on molecular mechanisms causing diseases, the use and applications of new technologies in genomics/epigenetics/proteomics as well as the development of prognostic, diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
The program is closely linked to current research activities at SciLifeLab, and most of affiliated scientists and experts in their field are teaching on the program. The master students often participate in international seminars and symposia at SciLifelab as well as undertake projects in different research groups. Most graduates of this program continue research studies as PhDs in different countries or in biotechnical or pharmaceutical industry.
During the master program, the students are trained in several techniques; e.g. STR genotyping, DNA methylation analysis, Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis of histone modifications, Proximity Ligation Assay (PLA) in solution in situ, differentiation of stem cells and digital image analysis. The master program emphasizes also independent presentations in English, both written and oral, of the student’s own as well as published research data.

The Master’s programme in Molecular Techniques in Life Science is a unique collaboration between Stockholm’s top universities; Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, in the environment of SciLifeLab (Science for Life Laboratory).
Our understanding of the human body on a molecular level has in recent years advanced dramatically, and has led to the development of a number of new therapies and diagnostic tools for the effective treatment of diseases. The mission of the Master’s programme in Molecular Techniques in Life Science is to prepare students for a professional research career in this area – to advance the fundamental understanding of the human body and its diseases on a molecular level, or use the knowledge to develop novel diagnostic tools and treatments.
The students will receive a comprehensive education in life science emphasising cutting-edge methods in bioinformatic analysis of big data, combined with state-of-the-art techniques used in modern “high throughput” molecular biology and how to translate biological findings into diagnostic tools and novel treatments.
